Director of Jams
Mark Arbus is a co-founder of The JamLab Mobile Music School. He is our Director of Jams, primarily responsible for overseeing the creation and efficient implementation of new and existing initiatives related to curriculum and instructional strategies that help motivate, inspire and empower students of music develop and strive towards actualizing their unique creative interests.
In addition, Mark is an innovative classroom teacher as well as an accomplished guitarist, songwriter and recording artist. He has also enjoyed many summers directing rock-music camp programs for young, aspiring musicians.
Working within these diverse settings, alongside learners with varying interests, Mark has come to understand, experience and prioritize the enhanced benefits that facilitating collaborative, creative and supportive arts-based programs have on the overall well-being of both individuals and groups alike.
Mark is a grateful husband and a loving father of two energetic sweethearts, both of whom are his biggest fans – no matter if he’s rocking out on stages across the city in different bands or if he’s strumming nursery rhymes to them at home.
Shira has over twenty years of combined clinical, front-line and support experience in the social-service sector, engaging adults and children with complex treatment needs. With additional training specific to working with children and families living with Attention Deficit Disorders, Shira has also acquired the necessary skills and insights to help provide guidance and expertise in developing an individualized student-directed approach to learning. In addition, Shira has worked in various areas of the non-profit music world, including outreach, festival direction and concert production. She also has extensive programming experience running community and private events.
Shira has always loved live music and she spent most of her childhood pocket savings on vinyl and concert tickets. Being forced to play piano instead of the electric guitar was a motivating factor which encouraged her to help co-create a music school with a primary goal of encouraging students to follow their individual creative passions. The Jamlab Mobile Music School has inspired her own three teenagers to find true joy in music making, and actualized Shira’s lifelong dream of creating a family band!
Pam Van Huyse
Manager of Lab Operations
Pam is our manager of Lab Operations, overseeing all of our Musical Mentors busy schedules and typically the first line of contact for our students and families. With almost twenty years of experience working both front- line and support positions in child welfare while also running her own bookkeeping business, Pam has the unique ability to combine flawless administrative skills with client-centred customer service. Always seeking new opportunities, Pam recently starting working as a film and video production manager, bringing a whole new set of talents to The JamLab community and Family Jams. Pam is a loving mother, an avid snowboarder, amateur guitar player, drummer, choir member and overall music fan.
Elyse Adams Tytel
Elyse is the Communications Manager for The JamLab. An avid music fan, Elyse is a freelance writer who has worn many different hats in her professional career including Broadcast Journalist, Conference Producer and non-profit program manager. While she dreams about Hawaii, Elyse lives in Toronto with her husband, two children and dog.
